Founded in 1986 Cryptek specialized in manufacturing TEMPEST products. In 1990 Cryptek, Inc was acquired by General Kinetics, Inc (GKI) and became a Division of GKI. In 1993, GKI acquired the Secure Products Division of Verdix Corporation, which included their DiamondTEK technology.
In 1995, Cryptek and the Secure Products Division merged and formed Cryptek Secure Communications, Inc as a subsidiary of GKI. During this time Cryptek sold over 6,000 Secure Facsimile machines worldwide to include over 600 machines to the German Forces and 350 machines to the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom. The Cryptek TS-10A became the standard TEMPEST Facsimile of the Royal Air Force.
In 1996, Cryptek Secure Communications became Cryptek Secure Communications, LLC. In 1999, Cryptek signed a contract with General Dynamics to supply the TS-21 Blackjack to General Dynamics under the US Army Common Hardware/Software Program. Since then the TS-21 Blackjack has become the Army standard tactical facsimile with more then 4,000 deployed machines to date. In 2002, the company changed their name from Cryptek Secure Communications, LLC and became Cryptek, Inc.
Cryptek, Inc continued their work of providing high assurance software and hardware solutions to the Federal Government that enabled various agencies to interoperate securely across organizational boundaries over both wire-line and wireless networks. Cryptek has also been recognized as a leader in government-to-government secure networking and was awarded the EAL4 certification and also manufactured Type-1 cryptographic products.
